North County’s Local Scoop

What is Local Scoop?

First and foremost, Local Scoop is a packaging and plastic-free food store that provides an alternative to the traditional grocery shopping experience. They are California, through and through, owned and operated by passionate locals living within the community of Encinitas.
Their products are majority organic and non-GMO. Free of artificial colors, flavors, and sugars. That means candies without dyes and waxes, nut mylks without oils and emulsifiers, and food provisions without plastics or pesticides.
The suppliers are as local as they can make them, sharing values of low-waste living and sustainability because they care about the planet.
Local Scoop’s values are simple: reduce single-use plastics and waste, provide food that is nourishing, and promote environmental stewardship in this beachside town.

WHERE DID THIS IDEA COME FROM?

Shopping at bulk refill stores is common around the world. Other countries are leading the way towards a more sustainable food system, from Australia to the United Kingdom. Local Scoop and its customers hope to lead the charge in California and beyond.

WHY DOES SHOPPING PACKAGE-FREE MATTER?

Sustainable Living: Buying in bulk helps reduce packaging waste and allows you to buy only the amount you need, reducing food waste and decreasing demand for foods in plastic.
Freshness: Bulk foods are often fresher than pre-packaged items, as they are stocked in smaller quantities and have a higher turnover rate.
Cost-Effective: Buying in bulk is less costly for you and the planet, as you’re not paying for packaging and marketing costs associated with pre-packaged items.
Healthier Options: Local Scoop is full of whole foods, with single ingredients and no additives or preservatives. This gives you more control over the quantity of sugar and salt you add to your meals, simplifying the art of eating healthy.
Local Economy: Shopping at Local Scoop supports the local economy and small businesses in your community, helping to create jobs and boost our community’s economy.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Simply bring your own containers from home – jars, Tupperware, bags, or boxes – and fill up with as much or as little as you need.
They also provide 100% post-consumer recycled paper bags and have free, sanitized jars in the store if you come without a container.

WHY SHOP AT LOCAL SCOOP?

Local Scoop customers care about low-waste living and are mindful of how we extract finite resources from the Earth. Their store is simply a resource to align values of low-waste living with actionable steps to protect the future health of our environment and, of course, our children.
