We’re not sure who really needs to be convinced to move to San Diego, but we’re laying out 10 solid reasons just in case. You can always keep this list handy to share with out-of-town visitors who you want to become your neighbors!
- We don’t need weathermen. We’re all fair-weather friends here, because it’s almost always 70 degrees. San Diego has the most temperate weather in the country. It typically doesn’t get lower than 60 or higher than 85 degrees and doesn’t rain often. Here’s to no mosquitos, low electricity bills, and flip flops year-round!
- Location, location, location. Many call San Diego home because nearly everything is within reach from here – coast, mountains, forest, wineries, deserts, Disneyland. Whatever you want, it’s likely within a two-hour drive. There are dozens of day-trip and weekend getaway possibilities.
- We eat & drink well. San Diegans love our craft beer and independent restaurant industry. You’ll be ruined for Mexican food anywhere else, except maybe Mexico, which is less than an hour away. From five-star restaurants and big-time beer gardens to hole-in-the-wall hot spots and tasting room garages, you’ll never lack for gastronomic enjoyment.
- We live outside. San Diegans really know how to enjoy our surroundings. A good outdoor living room is almost as important – and big – as your indoor space. There are a zillion outdoor activities to enjoy at home and around the city. That’s just one of the reasons we stay so fit.
- There’s always something to do. We have a plethora of theme parks – SeaWorld, LEGOLAND, and the world-class San Diego Zoo, plus Petco Park and art, science, and history museums. Arguably, a staycation in San Diego is better than an actual vacation anywhere else.
- It’s easy to get around. Walking, riding, or flying, traveling in or out of the city is simple. Trains, trolleys, bikes, and walkable neighborhoods mean not owning a car is not a deal breaker. Plus, the San Diego International Airport downtown is ultra-convenient.
- Our communities and lifestyle are friendly and laid back. We do yoga. We surf. We wear flip flops, swim trunks, and sweatshirts almost everywhere. We’re some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. It’s hard not to be happy when you live here!
- We love parks. San Diego has one of the best park systems in the country. In fact, San Diego County is home to massive state and national parks, a 4,600-acre aquatic park, 53 miles of city beaches, a 6,000-acre underwater park, and extensive wildlife corridors that contribute to thousands of miles of hiking trails. Plus, we have more varieties of trees and plants than any other place in the U.S., filling our parks with natural beauty.
- It’s family-friendly. Opportunities abound for kids, from great public schools and over a dozen colleges and universities to cultural amenities out the wazoo and plenty of entry-level jobs. (Psst! Parents play here, too! We have a diverse nightlife scene – from the upscale Gaslamp Quarter to laid-back Pacific Beach – and plenty of adult activities and sports for your own continuing education.)
- We have great beaches. San Diego boasts some of the most beautiful stretches of sand in the country. They are perfect for quintessential long walks and Green Flash seeking, as well as surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and lots of other ocean activities.
